Quick Answer
Mobile Order is available at essentially every U.S. company-operated Starbucks plus most licensed airport and Target locations. Turn on the Starbucks app, select your store, place the order, and pay. Drinks are prepared in the store's regular queue — not instant — but you skip the register line. Pickup options are typically "in-store counter" or "drive-thru" depending on the store.

The app shows real-time estimated wait at each store (typically 3–8 minutes during normal hours, 12–20 minutes during peak). That estimate is the total time from order placement to handoff, including the queue ahead of you. Mobile Order does not jump the queue — it places you in the same line as the register, but without waiting in line to order.
Customization depth is the main reason power users prefer Mobile Order: every syrup pump count, milk alternative, temperature, and add-on is configurable through the app with no pressure to hurry through the order verbally. Complex orders (triple shot blonde oat milk iced latte with 2 pumps of brown sugar, light ice) are dramatically easier in the app.
Starbucks Rewards accrue equally on Mobile Order and in-store transactions. Gift cards, loaded digital cards, and credit cards all work. One limitation: you cannot use a paper gift card at Mobile Order pickup — load it to the app first.
Open the app, select "Order" at the bottom, pick your store, customize drinks and food, tap "Checkout," confirm payment. The order sends to the store's queue. Walk in, look for the Mobile Order pickup shelf near the handoff counter, grab your drink when it appears (it will have a receipt tag with your name).
Yes at drive-thru-equipped stores. Select "Drive-Thru" as pickup method, drive to the speaker, say your name plus "Mobile Order." The barista has your drink in progress. You still move through the drive-thru queue — Mobile Order speeds prep, not the car line.
A small number of licensed locations in grocery stores and older airport terminals. Reserve Roasteries support Mobile Order for standard menu items but not for Reserve-exclusive bar drinks. The app will clearly show which stores accept Mobile Order when you browse for a pickup location.
10 AM–11:30 AM and 2 PM–4 PM, when the in-store queue is shortest. Mobile Order during peak morning (7–9 AM) typically shows 12–20 minute wait estimates — faster than waiting in line but not instant.
